Poker Night in America

My first live win with no Chop

I clearly fell off here for a bit, but im back and ready to recap! Things have been a bit hectic, but I suppose there are worse problems than constantly traveling and playing poker! So since the Foxwoods series, I played most of the Choctaw Poker Night in America series and then flew right away to St. Maarten for the TKPT with the Intertops poker crew ! There’s plenty to type about from both so let’s go over the Choctaw series quick! So between my friends and myself, we had either enough free rooms from the casino or split really cheap rooms at hotels right down the road. Plus the casino is only about and hour and a half from my house so the whole expense of rooms and food was cut down to a bare minimum. This was awesome, a huge plus in helping my bankroll in the long run, which should be a BIG priority for any player. So that part was good, annnnd I shipped my first live straight up win during the series, which was also good, but that’s all the good stuff from this series lol! I’m joking…mostly!

So the good stuff was PRETTY good, I have to say.(Obviously the pic above shows that lol) I won my first live tourney, straight up, no chop. And basically owned the final table, which was an awesome feeling.! lol I made some great plays against a really talented player when we were 6 handed that shot me to chip leader.  I adjusted to well to his crazy style and u made some pretty big calls on the river to snap off his bluffs!  So between running well and really just capitalizing on less experienced players mistakes, it was an awesome final table for me! Other than this win though, everything else seemed to go against me. I ran bad in every other tourney I played, the other good showing I had wasn’t until the main event, finishing 85 out of 1064. I know that’s pretty good, but considering how close i was to big money and the way I went out after playing for two long days, it was very disappointing to say the least. I had a pretty good stack going into day two (even after losing a big hand to a maniac very late) but couldn’t get anything going the whole day 2. I just tried to last through the money bubble bursting and was down to prob 8 big blinds before going on a pretty nice little heater and running it up to about 25 big blinds. Doesn’t sound like a lot but with the soft, inexperienced table I was at, I felt very comfortable…Then I look down at pocket aces in the cutoff, only to have the Big blind insta ship all in! Awesome right?! Snap call and high five the dealer! haha She thought I was just stealing and turns over Queen Jack suited! Sweet High five again dealer! Until she flops a Queen and turns the Jack to completely cripple me !!! Ahh poker! lol So after that I basically just tried to survive, but with the blinds going up and already being in the money, I ended up shipping soon after. Good question for everyone to critique… Should I have shoved from first position with 44 with only 8 big blinds left?? It played out that I got called from a guy in middle position with ace queen off suit, so I was pretty happy with the flip! But he hit a queen right in the window and I was out. I still think it was a good shove, and taking a flip there to get me back to a playable stack was right, but I would love to hear from everyone about it!

Fitness wise I did really well with my new program, that is, up until the last few days of the main. Between the shitty hotel gym and the pressure of preparing for the main event, the last couple workouts suffered pretty badly. I did ok, but again, I know I could have done better. I completely fell off the wagon when we hit St. Marteen lol but we’ll get to that later. I am still looking for tips and tricks on how others stay on track while traveling the live circuits and just play professionally in general.

Poker Night in America cash game!
Poker Night in America cash game!

Poker Night In America and choctaw did are great job, as usual. Everything ran smoothly and there were no issues that I heard of throughout this entire massive series.  I can check first Live straight up win off the bucket “TO DO” list, played well and came close in the main, and It was also pretty cool to see Phil Helmuth and Matt Glantz playing next to me!lol And not just the TV cash game but in other events and in the regular cash room. But maybe that just the poker nerd in me talking lol So good and bad as usual for a series! Ahh the roller coaster of the Poker life! Learn and on to the next one!!

The next one was the TKPT in St. Maarten with Intertops! I’ll be posting a recap of that very soon, but in the mean time you can check out the Living The Dream blog and my 2Fit2Fold facebook page for all the highlights! Including Chris Perkins and I practically shitting ourselves trying out Ziplining! haha!

Run Good and thanks for reading!
